Won, easing up, by ten lengths." Time, 3min 43sec. ' (By Sir Bedivere.) The Acceptances received last night in • (connection with the C.J.C. Summer Meeting are remarkably good, and the fieldspromise to be much bigger to-morrow j thin is usual at this, fixture. Trontham stables will be represented by Odessa, who, in view of the withdrawal of the top weights, will, ft is to be assumed, contest .the Midsummer Handicap rather than the Hornby Welter. Culprit is set a fairly stiff task in/the Filly Stakes, and at the weights Stardancer for one should keep her busy. The last-named may, of course, be -reserved for the Lyttelton Plate, but in this event she would meet , a distinctly useful customer in Gnome, who won in good style in November. • The Middle Park Plate field has already been reduced to nine, and -of these four' are the property of Sir George Clifford. Mr. Greenwood has, it will be noted, withdrawn/ the English-bred colt Valido in favour of Canute. Sir George, Clifford has won this 'event for five successive years, and "the sequence appeara likely to be continued. The Gisborne Racing Club's Summer Meeting commences to-morrow, and promises to be the most successful ev«r neld on the course. Continuance, Iney, Birkline, Lord Soult, and Goldfinder are the best performed horses, engaged, and a very speedy filly named Waiorewa, the property of Mr. F. Hall, will also be seen out. Mr. T. H. Lowry arrived in Wellington yesterday, and wjent on by the boat to Lyttelton in order to be present at the C.J.C. Summer Meeting, which commences io-morrow. - The yearling colt by Achilles from Marseillaise, for whom "Mr. E. J. Watt paid 200 guineas at the Waikanae - sale, is reported to. have died, on Saturday. If this- beeo, it' is extremely bad luck both for hie owner and breeder, for 'he was a most promising, trimlybuilt colt, that looked sure to go fast and come to hand early.
