BRITISH CAPTAIN SENTENCED

The captain of the British " steamer Benhead has been sentenced to twentyeight days' imprisonment for allegedly insulting the authorities. IThe Benhead dispute arose over the captain's protest that alleged unscrupulous shippers had been placing damaged grain aboard his vessel. A message published on the 29th December stated : "Sir Edward Grey, Secretary of State for Foreign < Affairs, at the instance of the imperial Merchant Service Guild, has taken action regarding the alleged arbitrary arrest at Sulina, Rumania, of Captain T. Robinson, of the British steamer Benhead. Bail of £4000 has been demanded. The guild denies that Captain Robinson is at fault, and declares that he has been arrested for the purposes of extortion. A cable received a few days later stated that Sir Edward Grey had decided that there was no .further ground for intervention.]
