The operator, Mr. X. , P M'Namara, told a Pc*t reporter to-day that last night ho was working with Sydney, which is not usual at that distance. Questioned concerning Macquario Island signals, about which there have been differences of opinion, Mr. M'Namara said that on his second night out from Bluff, on 2nd January, ho hoard Macquario Island. On the present trip from Sydney, on Monday night, he again heard the operator at tho 'island, which was about 1100 tnilea to the south. At 0.20 p.m. and 9.50 p.m., he heard the signals very clearly, but Macquarib could not hear him at all. A. boy named Edwavd King rescued a man named Alfred* Neilson, who had fot into difficulties at Lyall Bay yeeteray, after having been seized with cramp. Tho lad acted similarly in a case last week, and an attempt is being mad© to recognise his conduct. Th© Foxton Harbour Board intends to convene a public meeting at Feilding to discuss Harbour Board matters in that centre. Feilding in the past ha* boen opposed to inclusion in tho board's proposed rating area.
