The University Senate continued its session yesterday, the Chancellor (Sir Robert Stout) presiding. • RESUBMISSION OF A THESIS. Dr. Highb mov«d — "That ii the dissertation or thesis submitted by a candidate ior the degree of Doctor of Liter ature, or Doctor of Science, or Doctor of Laws, though inadequate, seem of sufficient, .merit to justify such repominendation, the examiner shall have the power to recommend the Senate to permit tne candidate in question to resubxriit his dissertation or thesis in a revised form after six months and within nine, months from the decision of the Senate 'with regard to it; and, if the Senate adopt such recommendation, the fee to be paid on re-entry shall be half the ordinary fee/ 1 ' Tho motion was carried without discussion. MEDICAL COMMITTEE. The Medical Committee submitted its report to the Senate. A recommendation in regard to the degree of Master of Dental Surgery is dealt with under a eeparate heading. With reference io the v point raisfrtl in clause 65 the committee recommends tbat clause 1 of the statute "Preliminary Examination of Medical Students" be repealed, and that the following words be inserted in place of it : — "Candidates for the Preliminary Medical Examination must pass the Matriculation Examination, and must include therein the following subjects: — 1, English; 2, Latin; 3, Mathematics; 4, one of the following subjects :— (a) Gr,eek, (b) a modern, lang-i uage." A resolution passed at the annual meeting ol the New Zealand Dental Association was forwarded for the consideration I of the Senate, and this was accompanied by. a petition m its favour from .31 members of the dental profession residing' in New Zealand. These were referred ' to this committee for report. The resolution referred to is as follows : — "That 'in the opinion of this , all- persons holding the Board Of Examiners' certificate, and who are on the New. Zealand Register, be permitted to sit for-*the final 8. D.5., examination, (sine . curriculo)." After consideration it was resolved that' the resolution be not approved, and the petition \y not graated.
