EDUCATION BOARD.
♦ This afternoon's meeting of the Wellington Education Board was attended by Messrs. R. Lee (chairman), A. H. Vile, W. Freeman, J. Kebbell, J. G. W. Aitken. A. W. Hogg, and W. Allan. REPAIRS, ETC. On the recommendation of • the Works Committee, the board approved the following works: — Greytown, new spouting, to residence; Clareville, cupboards, shelter shed, extension of urinal, repairs, etc. ; Island Bay, new spouting ; Karori, boarded fence, Donald-street'; Tokomaru, residence, , re-laying pipes; Northland, repairs, fencing ; ' Hutt, netting, high windows ; Maranui, storeroom ; Johnsonville, shelter shed ; South Wellington, introduction of > gas into .library. ' . FINANCES. Tha statement of the finances, for .the month, ended 26th January, showed a debit balance of £1724 12s Bd, as compared with a credit of £1107 19s 3d for the previous period. The Chairman explained that since the above return" was prepared, the Government subsidy, £2025, had come in, making a surplus of £300. The payments had been unusually large, ' .this month owing partly to the great number of buildings now in course of erection, and a sum of £1000 had been paid' out for capitation., A\ district bligh school is desired at Johnsonville. The board decided, when ihe request came *ip, to ask for full information.
