LAWN TENNIS.
PROVINCIAL CHAMPIONSHIPS. ■ PEACOCK WINS THE SINGLES. The remaining games of the Wellington Provincial Lawn Tennis Championship Tournament were played at Day's Bay on Saturday. Peacock met Swanston iv the championship singles, and Misses Van Staveren and Davis and Misses* Williams and Batham played off tho final of the handicap doubles. Tho match between Swanston and Peacock was exceedingly close. Swanston won the first set 7-6, but lost the second easily 2-6. The third set went to 12 games all and then Swanston tired. Peacock won the next two games and set. The final set went rather easily to Peacock who thus becomes 1912 champion. Following are details : — Men'? Championship Singles (H. A. Parker holder, 1911) :— J. C. Peacock beat R. N. K. Swanston, 5—7,5 — 7, 6—2, 14—12, 6—4. Ladies' Handicap Doubles.— Misses Van Staveren and Davis (2) beat Misses Williams and Batham .(owe 10), 60 — 40.
