STAR PICTURES:
The Star Theatre, Newtown, was, again largely • attended last evening, wnen another entirely new series of films were screened. The chief attraction was one of Pathe Frere's latest series, an exquisitely-coloured representation of- "The -Siege of Calais. ' - The film itself is over 2000 ft long, while in come of the scenes over 2500 people and horses appear. Another film that created a good deal Of interest, and which is always welcomed by the picture-goer, was the Australasian edition of the Pathe Gazette, showing the opening of the surf-bathing season' at Lyall Bay, His Excellency Lord Islington opening Auckland's new Town Hall the English cricketers in the first Test match, H.M.S. Powerful leaving Sydney for the "scrap heap," and other items. Among the dramas, "A ' Favourable Stream," "The V.oyageur," and "The Cord of Life," deserve mention. An excellent- scenic film ' was "Falls of Schawzback," while "Bill Determines To Go" provoked ■ a great ,deal of laughter. A matinee will be given tomorrow afterpoon, when appropriate pictures for the young will be shown.
