RUSH OF GAS IN A MINE AT THAMES. AWFUL SCBAMBLE FOR LIFE. |BX IKJIQBAVK — PRESS ASSOCIATION.} THAMES, This Day. An inrush of gas occurred in the May Queen mine to-day, resulting in the death by suffocation of two men, 'while two men had to be conveyed to the Thames Hospital for treatment. A party was working in the stopes above No. 6 level. There was an awful scramble for life,, when the alarm was given that gas was 1 in No. 6 level, and a desperate struggle ensued. James Williams was overcome with ga&, and fell in the level. He was dead when he was rescued, while Thomas Guy, who was alive when brought to the surface, died shortly after. He was overcome with gas, and fell in the level. Two men named Crawley and Adams ar« in hospital suffering from poisonous gas. Four others— Vercoe, James, Mulcahy, and Herival — were all more or less affected, but not seriously.
