WRECK OF THE ASKOY.
CAPTAIN ARRIVES AT SYDNEY. CARRIED ON THE REEF BY STRONO CURRENT. • By Telegraph Association.— Copyrl£n& (Received January 10, 9.33 a.m.) SYDNEY This Day. Captain Morner, of the Norwegian barque Askoy, which was wrecked on Elizabeth Reef, has arrived from Noumea. He states that he was picked up a hundred and twenty miles from the wreck after travelling for two days. He adds little to the story of the wreck, but states that there must have been a strong current, which carried the Askoy oh the reef. t j While on the reef the vessel was surrounded by enormous sharks, which j came close enough to be struck by the men. j The only inconvenience experienced in j the small- boat was from the hot sun. Luckily the weather was fine, as tha boat was too small to have outlived a j storm. v • j
