INCREASED REVENUE

PRIME MINISTER'S STATEMENT FIGURES FOR NINE MONTHS. — r MONEY TIGHT. The Prime Minister (Sir Joseph Ward) furnished figures relating to the country's revenue for the nine months ended 51st December. Compared wit-h the corresponding period of the previous year it will be seen that the revenue has increased by £598,884. If a comparison is made over the past twelve months with the year ended 31st December, 1910, it< will be found that the revenue has increased by £965,655. The details for the last nine months are as fallows :—: — ■> In-

Commenting on the figures, Sir Joseph Ward said : — "As showing the buoyancy of trade in the Dominion, during tho nine months of the financial year, it is very gratifying to find that there has been au increase under all heads of 'revenue, even though the period included the elections-, which always interfeie with the ordinary currency of traSe. This goes to show that the genera] activity in % all avenues which go to make up our i % evenue has been . very marked. The current quarter, which ends on 31st March, is, usually one of the best of the year, and I hope to find that the' average increase for the nine months under review will ' continue. Since the • general election there have been clear indications of tightness of money in various portions of tho Dominion, and I should hope, for the sake of the country and all engaged in its trade and development, that tho satisfactory condition of the revenue will help to allay any uneasiness." The figures relating to expenditure have not been furnished for publication.
