AMATEUR ATHLETICS.

MEETING OF NEW ZEALAND COUNCIL. The monthly meeting of the Council of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association was held last evening, Mr. A. A. Marryatt in. the chair. The timekeepers at the recent championship meeting notified that the following had obtained standard times : — R. Opie (100 and 220 yards), G. 'Harding (half-mile), G. N. Hill (one mile), G. P. Jveddell and W. Murray (one mile walk), H. E. Kerr, W. Murray, D. Cashman, J. J. Harley, and W. Ellis (three mile walk). The matter was referred to tho Australasian Union. Numerous accounts in connection with the Australasian championship meeting were passed for payment. The statement of receipts and expenditure pre■Eented to the meeting showed that the receipts were £517 17s Bd, and the expenditure £305 2s 8d approximately. The gate takings for the two days were £424 16s Bd, and programme sales amounted to £62 18s. Entries _ totalled £10 7e, and programme advertisements amounted to £19 19s. The biggest items on, the liet of expenditure were advertisipg £54 10s 9d, and travelling expenses of New Zealand competitors £41 13s lOd. The cost of medals and trophies for the handicap events was £100 6s. • , . A hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mr. C. E. Bridge for his work in connection with the management of the New Zealand team. With regard to the three-mile run championship event it was decided to donate a special medal to Pugh, who ran second to Hill. The Australasian medal went to Bamford, of New South Wales, who ran third. Pugh was 1 not eligible for the medal, as he was not flntered for the event, being prevailed on to run ab the last minute in order to make a race for Hill. Ee|arding the custody of the shield won by New Zealand, it was decided to hand ifc over to the president of the N.Z.A.A.A. Association. Votes of- thanks to t'hoso who assisted to make the meeting a success concluded the meeting.
