WHARF FATALITY.

INQUEST ON A. RICKMAN. A coroner's enquiry into the circumstances of the death of A. Rickman, who was crushed between a truck and ! a crane ou thtj Glasgow Wharf on Sati urday was held at the Hospital by Mr. ; W. G. Rirldell. S.M., yesterday. Mr. T. S.. West on 7 appeared for tho [ Wellington Harbour Board, Mr. W. Perry for the widow cf the deceased, and Mr. H. E. Evans for the Shaw, I Savill, and Albion Company. } Thomas Edwards*, wharf labourer, who was working; with deceased, .said there was no need for deceased to have been where he wa* at the time of the accident. The driver of the shunting engine, Felix Jos. M'Gowan, gave evidence to the effect that there were twelve or thirteen trucks in front of the engine, these blocking his view. He did not know anything about the accident until he received a signal to stop. He was then told that a man had been crushed. A shunter named Green said that when he gave the signal for the tiain to proceed the line was clear. He did not think that the accident would have been avoided had there been a man walking in front of the trucks. In returning; a verdict of accidental death. Mr. Ifiddell remarked that tho occurrence was one of -those unfortunate accidents that do happen on the wharves.
