PUBLIC CONVENIENCES.
! EXTENSIONS RECOMMENDED. The City Engineer, who had been asked to report^ on ihe sanitary conveniences required in the city for ,both tnon. and women, submitted a report to the council last night. No estimates could bo given before sites were selected. Conveniences for men wero provided as follows: — Lambton-quay, Oriental Bay, tram terminus (Ne:yto\vn), Anderson Park, Lyall Bay, Basin Reserve, Davisstreet, Wakefield-^treet, Tartinaki-street, Thorndon-quay, New-town Park, Duppaatreet Reserve, Nairn-street Reserve, Whitmoro-stxeet, Thorndon, Courlenayplace, 1 Aro-6treet, Kelburne Park, Island Bay, Botanical Gardens, Tinnkori-road, Cornhill-street. Existing conveniences for women are as follows : — Newtown Park, Courtenayplace, Lyall Bay, Duppa-«_treet Reserve, Basin Reserve, Central Library, Island Bay, Oriental Bay, Botanical Gardone, i Kelburne Park. The engineer recommended that the following additional conveniences be_ provided: — For men— At or neat the intersection of Cuba and Vivian streets ; at Kilbirnie Recreation Ground ; in Ohiroroad, Brooklyn, south of Cleveland-street ; in Hall-street, Newtown, west of Riddi i ford-street. Square (already approved); in Courte-nay-placo (increased accommodation previously reported on) ; at Kilbirnio I{e.creation Ground ; in Ohiro-road, south of Cleveland-street ; in Corporation Reserve, Dixon-street, or, as an alternative, in Garrett-6treet, west of Cuba-street, on land to be purcha&ed. Councillor Barber appealed tor more conveniences for Wellington South. The present state of things wae very unsatisfactory for residents. He urged tho nocessifcv of conveniences at tho different tram terminuses. The report was adopted, the Mayor assuring the council that nothing could be done during the present financial yeai.
