EXHIBITION SURPLUS.
BONUSES VOTED. It was reported to the Wellington Tndustrial Association last night that the Exhibition surplus was £1464 5s lOd. The chairman (Mr. T. Ballinger) stated that the committee had decided to take no action in the matter of disposing of the surplus until the accounts had been audited. Mr. H. H. Seatpn : We know the surplus to a few shillings, and we should be entitled to »ome cay as to its distribution. Mr. D. Robertson agreed. Mr. John Smith: Let us understand ' where we are. We have heard suggestions as to bonuses-, but we should know what we are going to do, and do it to-night. (Mr. D. Robetteon: Hear. hear.) Mr. Ballinger explained that the position wae a little awkward. It had been proposed that the three Commissioners, Messrs. E. Bull, L. R. Partridge, and himself should receive £100 or plate to that value, the secretary (Mr. H. F. Allen) £100, and the secretary's two eons, and Messrs. White and Shackelford, some remuneration. j At the suggestion of Mr. L. R. Partridge, it wae decided that the Commiesioners and the secretary should tetitb while the matter was being discussed. On the motion of Mr. Seaton, the motion requiring an audit before money was voted was veecinded. Mr. E. Kupli moved that Mr. A. W. Newton take the chair in the mean time. Thw was agreed to, and the question was discussed in committee. The three Commissioners were awarded £100 between them, Mr. H. F Allen £100, Mr. F. A. Allen £10 10b, Mr. L. Allen £10 10s, Mr. White £10 and Mr. Shackelford £7 7b: total, £238 17s. Mr. Robertson suggested that the balance be invested until it, was decided what to do with it. There Was no need for hurry. It was decided to place £1200 at fixed deposit for twelve months.
