TRAM TIME-TABLE. THE KARORI LINE. ALTERATIONS TO BE MADE.

Tins Tramway Committee of the Karori Borough Council recently infer* viewed the City Electrical Engineer (Mr. S. Richardson) ' on the matter of an alteration of the time-table on the 1 Karori tramway systemi I The Electrical Engineer submitted hte report to the Karori Council at its meeting la«t evening. The funning of aft I hourly Bervics be-tweea the Bark and I Council Chambers between 4 12 noon and I 2.0 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundafs could be arranged at a week's noticeas also the discontinuing of the running of a car from Karori Park at 7.45 a.m. In Tegard'to the possibility t>f running a half-hourly service between Botanical Gardens and Council Chambers instead of the present twenty minutes' service, Mr. tUehittdson cowidered that this service Would be inconvenient to the travelling public, and Would not be suffioient to cope with the loading during th*> afternoons in summer. He suggested -no alteration in the. present, afternoon feervice, but a forty minutes' service should be substituted between 5.0 a.m. and 1.0 p.m. vi place of the twenty minutes' eervice .from Karori. An explanatory"tiftic-table was attached i>n which -six care 'were deleted" from the Council Chamber, departure table between 9.8 a.m. and 1.8 p.m. and an eighty minutes' ' service wits shcAvh betSveen Karori Park atld t-h& cliambers during tho day time. This represents a saving of thirty-two mSec daily. Tho report considered, it -would be advisable to retain the 'twenty minutes' service tothe Council Chambers, but aft eighty minules' service to the park Wuld pfob|bly cause no serious inconvenience. The running of a pervkte- via . Char-lotts-slreet and "Poet Office wjll be carried out probably in tho early part of j next year". Definite instructions havo been re-i?3ued in connection With the j mnning of cars from Council Chambers j to Karori Park when ten or more passengers wish to ride through. Particulars are asked for in any instance where men refuee to run through. The mat* ter of conductors collecting fares at commencement of sections has, it was reported, been taken up with the men. A return of the number of tickets sold on each section, it was directed, could be' supplied to the borough council free of cost, providing such Was required only for certain weeks during tlie year. _ "The matter of care leaving ahead of time has been taken up strongly," said Mr. Richardson, "and I shall be pleased to look into further instances which may come under the attention of your council." He added that a reduction of service- on Saturday nights— the ten minutes from Karori to be cut down at 6 p.m. and brought in again from Newtown at 9 p.m. could be arranged. Tlie Mayor moved : "That, the sug« -gosted alteration of tinie4a l ole on, the Karoti Tramway system a« embodied in a letter from the City Electrical Engineer, dated ?th September last, be adopted by the coundil, and that the electrica-l engineer be requested to make such alterations as soon a-s possible. " In seconding the motion, Councillor HUdreth said that the saving of over £11 per Week in running cost was sufficient justification for the council having taken the action ifc did in the matter. He considered that it would be shown that any loss of traffic would be a mere bagatelle as compared with tho saving effected. The subject was brought up about twelve months ago. He was very pleased to second the motion, and he wae sure the council Would have no reason to regret having taken the step. The motion, wae carried unanimously.
