BIBLE INSTRUCTION IN SCHOOLS

On thfe motion of Dr. Gibb and Rev. J. Kennedy Elliott, the following resolution concerning the introduction of the Bible into the schools of the Dominion was carried at to-day's meeting of the Wellington Presbytery :— " The Presbytery, having received and considered the remit of the Assembly's Committee on the question of the surfc ability for New Zealand of the New South Wales Bibk-in-schools system, resolve* to approve generally of the principle of that system, namely, Bible instruction by teachers as a part of the regular school curriculum, and permission for ministers of religion, or other teachers appointed by the churches, to enter the schools at stated intervals for the purpose of imparting religions in* struction to the children. The Presby* terby is of opinion that it Would be unwise at the present juncture to commit itself to more than this, The Presby* tery recommends the Assembly to empower its committee to co-operate with similar committees appointed by the other churches favourable to the movement, with a view to the elaboration of details, and the formulation of a pro* gramme of effort designed to enlist the sympathies and secure the active support of all who desire the introduction of Bible-teaching in the State schools of the Dominion.

Mr. J. R. Nichol, of Melbourne, who is visiting the New Zealand Y.M.C.A.'s, has addressed quite a number of meetings at tho local V.M.C.A. Last evening he was entertained at tea by thirty members of the Foreign Work Club. To-night Mr. Nichol will deliver hi? missionary lecture on "Tho Great World Crisis."
