HUTT COUNTY COUNCIL.
Thd Hufct County Council met today. The following were present ;— Councillors M. J. Lynch (chairman), W. Galloway, J. Wakeham, T. Edwards, J. Whitemaa, M. W. Welch. Inspector. J. Cudby reported having made repairs, etc., to various roads in the county. A email bridge of about 15ft spam has been erected on the upper length of the Akata.rawa-road, south of Baigent's sawmill. The approach to a bridge in Stokes's Valley, near the school, is giving way, caused by decay of old wing logs. Substantial repairs are recommended. A great improvement has been made to that portion of the road from the junction with Fitzherbert Swamp-road to the Black Creek Bridge, a distance of about fifty chains. Where the road was 10ft wide it has now double the width, all banks have been ploughed off and hollows filled, and quite an up-to-date road has been made of what before was little better than a track. It serves to show (comments the inspectoi')-\th& necessity lor similar work in various parl6 of the county. Nearly a mile of fencing south of Lynch's crossing h^s been completed, as also thirty-five chajns of Cottle to Normandale-road contract. Eighty*four and a half chains of Plim-mertoh-Pukerna. grant road is done, and other grant roade in process of construction are Phillips-road (contract.), Waika-nae-Upper Hutt (contract), MoonshineWaiuui (day work).
