A policeman accosted three housabreakers in daylight in a back street in Winnipeg. The latter fired and wounded the policeman mortally, Othef policemen engaged the robbers, revolvers being used on both sides, The criminals were finally captured when their revolvers were empty, DIAMOND MERCHANT BAILED UP. THIEVES GET OFF WITH THEIR BOOTY. (Received August 25, 10.50 a,m,) LONDON, 24th August. Mr, Hoptoti, a diamond merchant, waa bailed up in a street in the daytime near Dalstort, a London *«butb, and robbed of £3000 worth of diamonds. The three robbers decamped fn a taxi' cab. anothesTbig haul. (Received August 25, 2.10 p.m.) PARIS, 24th August. A merchant travelling from Park to Antwerp was robbed of diamonds worth £7000.
