BREACH OF AWARD,
BUILDERS FINED. The Inspector of Awards (Mr. R. A. Bolland) proceeded agdinat Meyer and Ulingworth, builders, Wellington, at the Magistrate's Court, before Mr. W. (J. Riddell, 5.M.,- to-day, to recover the sum of JBIO asjienalty for a breach of the Wellington Building Trades Laboui'ew' award. It wa« alleged irt .the information that defendant* failed to pay employees for time occupied in tra« veiling to and from work in subtfrfian localities. Mr. T. S. Weston, who appeared for defendants, asked {hat only a nominal fine be imposed. He stated that his clients had a contract at Karori, and were aware that it waa necessary for them to pay for 'the men'e time in tra* veiling. The secretary of the union had been communicated with, and he bad stated that an hour a tiay should be paid for. Owing- to a mistake in th« eJHee this had Been taken a* an hour a week. .After hearing Mr. Bolland, flu* Worship said he would accept the statement that a mistake had been made, and would only impose a email penalty. Defendants were fined 10s.
