The death is recorded of Captain Stewart, who brought out to Dunedin Dredge 222 for the Harbour Board, and before that commanded the Shaw, Savill Company's Taiai'oa. and vessels belonging to. , tho Union Company. .Deceased was known in recent years as an ardent advocate of the Bible in Schools and a supporter _of the No-license movement. One son is a, teacher at Geraldine and another at Wanganui. MR. JAMES GALT. "~GORE, This Day. Mr. James Gait, of Tttturau, Hear MatattKi, died in a private hospital in Dttfledin last evening. Deceased was well known throughout the Dominion as a breeder of Ayrshires. When occupied by him the Mararua Estate was looked upon as the model farm in Southland. He ■was one of the best-known, cattle judges in the South Island, and took a great interest in dairying. He was 66 years old.
