WEDNESDAY MATCHES START. The Wednesday Hockey Association commenced its season yesterday afternoon in excellent weather ■ conditions. The results aro an under: — • PETONE A (6) v. HEREAWA (0). Hereawa, a new oluh, suffored defoat at the hands of Petone A by 6 goals to nil. The score in the first spell was I—o. registered by Judd. Petone ueeame more aggressive in the second spell, and W. M'liwau and Howe raised tho total to 6 goals to nil. Mr. J. O. Cusaok had charge of tha game. PAKEHA (3) v. HUI MAI (1). At Duppa-streot, Pakeha defeated Hui Mai by 3 goals to 1. Neither notohed a goal before half-time. In the second spell, lhoinpson (Pakeha) secured from a passing rush and scored. This player repeatea his performance on two occasions, and Benge found the net once for .tho losers. The referee was Mr. Hollis. KARORI (9) v. PETONE B (0). A runaway victory waa secured by Karon over Potone B, the figures being 9 goals to nil, shot by Henderson, Spiers, Lowe, and Cole. Mr. Gendall carried tho whistle. REFEREES' ASSOCIATION. The Hockey* Referees' Association hold its annual meeting last night. Mr# -?-,P- Mor Peth was elected chairman and Mr. C. P. M'Kenzie lion, see j cr X hearfc y vote of thanks was accorded Mr. W. J. Organ, the late chairman, for his past services. Mr. Turner, late secretary, was also thanked. " At the instance of Mr. Falconer, the following motion was adopted : —"That referees be classed in two grades, senior and junior, and that an examination board bo set up, with a view to examining junior referees for classification entitling them to rank as seniors."
