Strong southerly and easterly winds predominated in the northern districts, but have decreased hi force and are generally moderate over the North Island this morning The directions have been variable over the' South and with but little force. A cold night, with frosts in parts, was experienced last night, and the weather to-day though cool has shown an improvement in most parts of the country.
