CHURCH MATTERS.

ANNIVERSARY GATHERINGS. TRINITY METHODIST. The anniversary conversazione of the Trinity Methodist Church, Newtown, was held last night. There was a very large attendance. The Rev. .J. Ward, minister of the church, presided. Addrebses were delivered by the Revs. W. H. Beck, a former minister of the church, C. H. Olds, and J?. Hands. Solos were sung by Miss E. Boxall, Messrs: Pitcher and Mr. G. Hood, while instrumental items were contributed by Messrs. R. C. Olds, O. B. Mackintosh, and Misses Matheson and Henderson. Refreshments were served by the ladies of the congregation, and a collection made on behalf of tho Church Trust Fund. Tho balance-sheet showed that the expenditure for tJie year amounted to £450, leaving a credit balance of £5. The annual report stated that the congregation had kept up well, though there was always room for more. The membership returns for Trinity Church were 149 frill, 3 probationers, and 13 catechumens ; and for the whole circuit, 242 full, 8 probationers, and 37 catechumens. Reference was made to Uie extension of Methodism in the southeru part of the city and suburbs. A definite church had been established at Worser Bay, v ith a section free from debt and £60 in hand. A vigorous cause had been formed at Maranui, where a valuable site had been secured. An equally hopeful start had been made at Berhampore, and what might be a successful church had been restarted at Miramar. These young Methodist shoots were all doing well, and in Uiem three Sunday-schools, with over 120 scholars, had been established. TERRACE CONGREGATIONAL. The annual meeting of the Terrace Congregational Church takes place next Tuesday. The annual report, to be prepented there, records a membership of 133, an increase of 5 during the year. There was a slight increase in th« attendance at- Sunday'school, the number on the roll being 95. with au average attendance of 77; The amount raised for the London Missionary Society by tho church and Sunday-school was £103 19s. The finances of ,the church, though not as good as could be wished, might, taken ill the aggregate, be considered satisfactory. The total amount received was £904, as under:— General Fund, £609 3s 2d; Home Mission Fund, £43 7s 3d: Young Women's Club, £52 ; Sacramental Fund. £14 18s 7d; Renovation Fund, £35 10s 6d; Painting Fund, £148 17s 6d. . The General Fund account showed a debit balance of £38 13s 2d, being an increase in the deficit of £31 17s 7d for the year. The weekly offerings decreased by £15 12s 4d, being a falling-off of 6s 3d per Sunday. This," slates the report, "is a matter for regret, and requires the careful attention of the congregation; for not only has the deficit to be made up. but a larger weekly offertory than that of the past year is needed to carry on and maintain the public workship." In the early part of tne year tho church and school buildings were thoroughly renovated and painted at a cost of £249 15s 3d. The balance in hand was only £55, so that an additional sum of £200 was needed. It was^ decided to appeal direct to the members of the congregation for donations, and in this way £148 17b 6d was raised, which, with a donation of £32 from the Young Women's Club and, £13 17s 9d transferred from the Renovation Fund, provided the amount required. Thanks are extended to the choir and other church workers. We cheerfully admit' that the best advertisers of Warner's rust-proof corset* are the wearers of Warner's. — Advt.
