AGRICULTURAL CLASSES.

INAUGURATED AT NELSON COLLEGE. [BY TELEGBAPH — SPECIAL TO THE POST.] NELSON, This Day. ' A great deal of interest has been mani- 1 fested in the inauguration of agricul- ', tural classes at Nelson College. Be-eid-ee the ordinary science masters oftho college who will deal exhaustively with the scientific aspect of the question, an export instructor has been 'engaged who will give the boys practical experience in a large portion ol ground which hae been set aside for various experimental plots. The course is a two j yeare' on© and may be divided up into ■ the following: — Agricultural chemistry, { botany, preparation of the soil, tren- | planting, tho care of fruit treee, prim- ' ing, knowledge of manures and the soils best suited for various trees, plants, etc., and then if boye stay a little longer, it | is intended to take them through a j coursa in tho analysis of soils and the chemistry of manures. This course, which will be a daily one, will take the ■place of Latin, for it is recognised that it is time practically wasted to study Latin for only two or three years, and then leave it for good, a& is the case with a large number of boye. Attending this class are boys from various parts of .New Zealand as well as a number from the Nelson district, which makes it neceseary that local conditions j must not have too much prominence.
