Members of the Unionist Party are urging thtf Government to invite the leaders of the Opposition, the Labour Party, and the Nationalist Party to the opening of the Imperial Conference in order to enable oversea members fully to realise that thej are receiving a national welcome. SOUTH AFRICA. GENERAL QUESTION OF PREFERENCE. LONDON, 17th February. Reuter's Capetown correspondent declares that tho Union Government considers it preferable simply to discuss the general question of preference with the Imperial Government instead of suggesting the replacement of the South African preferential tariff fey a contribution, to the Navy. AUSTRALIAN .VIEWS. SAID TO BE UNCHANGED. LONDON. 17th February. The Sydney correspondent of The Times states that Australians retain unchanged views on preference. They will not alter their policy, but will probably readjust the detailed duties more einca ciously at the next tariff revision. They feel that it is useless to reintroduce the subject at the Imperial Conference while tho existing Imperial Ministry is the mouthpiece of English views.
