CITY COUNCIL STAFF PICNIC.

The members of the City Corporation staff held their annual picnic at. Day's Bay yesterday, the Mayor (Mr. T. M. Wilford) and a number of the councillors being present. On the whole the outing was a most enjoyable one. A sports meeting was held during the day. One of the most amusing competitions was one in which ladies were required to draw a pig blindfolded. First prize was awarded to Miss Howarth and second to Mrs. Weaver. Results of the various events were as follows :—: — 100 yds race. — Stubbs, 1 ; Wilkinson, 2 ; M'Bean, 3. 220 yds race. — Ay res, 1; Stubbs, 2. 440 yds race.— Wilkinson, 1 ; Bridge, 2 ; Stubbs, 3. 6 Championship in points. — Stubbs. Second points' trophy — Wilkinson. Nail-driving for ladies. — Mrs. Richards, 1 (C. A. Odlin's trophy); Mrs. Taylor, 2 (R. and E. Tingey and Co.'s trophy). Married men's race — Taylor, 1 (J. and Co. *s trophy) ; Curtis, 2 (Turnljull, Hickson, and Gooder'stroMarried ladies' race. — Mrs. Weston, 1 (Westpbrt Coal Co.'s trophy); Mrs. Rice, 2 (Empire Oil Co.'s trophy). Single ladies' race — Miss Buswell, 1 (United Asbestos Co.'s trophy); Miss Cathie, 2 (P. Hutson and Co.'s trophy). Thread-the-needle race. — Miss Howarth, 1 (J. Chambers and Son's trophy) ; Miss Reid, 2. 50yds swimming race. — Bridge (A. W. Cameron and Co.'s trophy), 1; Silver, 2 (Blundell Bros.' trophy). Committeeinen's race — Swinburne, 1 (Dominion's trophy) ; Grant, 2 [Richardson, Blair, and M'Cabe's trophy). Tug-of-war (teams seven a-side) — The city engineer's department defeated a team representing the electric lighting and tramway departments. On the run home Councillor Frost presented the championship cup and medal to Mr. Stubbs, and the second points' trophy to Mr. Wilkinson.
