An exciting incident is reported from Palermo (Sicily). A notorious Sicilian brigand named Ballo visited the Opera House? with the mistress of a rival. He informed the carabrnieri on duty; that he was Ballo. An attempt to arrest him was made, anid he was eventually overpowered, naifc, however, before he had killed one of 1 the soldiers with a revolver. BaJlo is accused of ten murders. It is also alleged that he- has been, guilty of blackmailing in the province to the extent of 150,000 lire a year (a. lire is about lOd).
