WELLGTQN ROWING REGATTA.

TO-MORROW'S RACES. No surer indication of the popularity ot rowing, and of tho enthusiasm with whicn this branch of athletics is cultivated, could be given than the number 01 entries for to-inorrow'a rowing regatta, iiQider u le ausp i ces o f Wellington Bowing Association. Fifty-six crews are engaged to participate in |ac fen events of the afternoon, and tnvre should be some exciting finishes. Perhaps the most notable event on tho progianune is the senior four race, which starts at 2.30 p.m., and which will doubtless provide one of the bett examples of good oarsmanship and endurance yet seen on the waters of Port Nicholson. Each of the contestantsUnion (Wanganui), Blenheim, Union (Canterbury), and Picton— has been training assiduously during the past, few weeks, and has put up some fine perlormances. Wanganui Unions stand present champions of Australasia ; Blenheim were runners-tip in the last Australasian championship at Hobart, and Canterbury Union were winners of the senior fours v. at the Christchurch regatta last Thursday. The senior pairs and double eculls events will also be closely watched, in view of next week"s big regatta at Wanganui. If the_ present southerly holds, tho course will be across Oriental Bay, and the events will finish between the Tara-naki-strest Wharf and the Queen's Whs.cf. A red pennant will be flown from the Post Office tower if thesontJieny course is decided upon. Should the wind be northerly, and the races have to go to Petone", a blue pennant will be flown. The Admiral will leave the Perry Wharf at 12.30 p.m., and will fellow the races throughout the afternoon. In tho event of a southerly — afi seems likely from present indications — the steamer will touch at the Taranaki-street Wharf between each event to pick up passengers. Most of the forty visiting crews will arrive to-night, or to-morrow morning, and_ these men are the flower of the rowing clubs throughout the Dominion. Seldom have more interest and enthusiasm been displayed in a regatta.
