RAILWAYS DEPARTMENT.
The staff of the Railway Department was favoured with glorious weather for
its annual picnic at Day's Bay yesterday. The sun shone brightly in a cloudless sky, and as the trippers, male and female-, and children, journeyed across the harbour they contrasted the conditions with those of a year ago, when the rain poured throughout the livelong day. The outing proved to be most enjoyable, plenty of amusements being provided for both the children and the grown-ups. The waterchute was kept going merrily all day, paddling and swimming were indulged in by hundreds, and a sports programme which had been arranged> filled in portions of the day very pleasantly. All voted that the outing was a pronounced success, that the committee of management, of which Mr. H. M'Keowen was secretary, had carried out its duties in a most satisfactory manner. An excellent luncheon was provided, and was much appreciated ty the picnickers and guests. Before leaving for home Mr. T. Ronayne (General Manager) presented the Aggregate Cup to the chief mechanical engineers' department, whose team had scored the most points in the swimming and athletic events.
