THE PROPOSED TRANSFER OF THE GALAPAGOS GROUP. By Telegraph.— Press Association.— Copyright, (Received January 3i, 11.30 a.m.) GUAYAQUIL, 30th January. Owing to the people's opposition the Ecuador Government will not proceed with the negotiations for the transfer of the Galapagos Islands to the United States, which was anxious to acquire the group as a base in the Pacific for protection of the Panama Canal.
