LOCAL AND GENERAL, Early this month, Mr. R. A. Wright, M.P. for Wellington South, communicated with the Minister for Labour, the Hon. J. A. Millar, in regard 1 to the increase of wages, authorised by amendment to the Government Railways Act last session, fot the ironworkers' machinists in the Railway Department. Though the authorisation had been passed, the men have not so far received the benefit of the increase, and Mr. Wright approached the Minister for the reason. The men, under the circumstances, were somewhat disturbed at having heard nothing further, bvit the Minister's reply to the member for Wellington South states that the matter is receiving his attention. The qualifications of the various men are^ says the Minister, now under review. This would shortly be completed, and the men will then be placed in their positions and receive rates of pay according to the neV scale.
