NEW TRAMWAYS FOR LONDON.

* — — The London County Council's Tramways and General Powers Bill for next session have been drafted. The former provides for the construction of about fourteen miles of new tramways, the principal schemes in the list being those for lines between the Marble-arch and Cricklewood, Finchleyroad and Chalkfarm-road, Maida-Vale and Upper Avenue-road, and Swisscottage and Marylebone-road. Powers for the reconstruction of about a mile of existing tramways are also asked for. The estimated cost of the proposals in the Bill is £1,187,600, of which £357,260 is in respect of street improvements. Amongst the miscellaneous provisions are powers to provide and maintain shelters for tramway passengers, to ef feet agreements for through booking between the tramways and underground electric railways, to charge for the carriage of luggage exceeding 281b in weight, and to run seserved cars for the conveyance of women or for private parties. The General Powers Bill asks for a great number- of powers, and amongst them authority is sought to further control the preparation ot ice cream.
