CARRIED OUT TO SEA. SAD OCCURRENCE AT COOGEE.

A sensational drowning fatality oc--curred to-day on Coogee Beach, one of Sydney's favourite watering-places. Six women and five men, white bathing in the surf, were carried out-towsea., All the women and one man were, rescued, the other four men beings drowned.. The names of the drowned are : — < .Joseph M'Grath, George Mackre, Syd--jcey Hardy, and Wilson. The recent heavy rains had: formed a channel in which there was a strong Vcurrent, added to which the* sea was •-very rough and. there was a strong under-tow, especially in the channel which had been scooped out by the rush of storm water. When the bathers ventured into the . 'water which had been made dangerous 'by the channel, they were quickly carried out to sea. The rescuers did excellent work, Harold Baker Avas especially prominent, saving several lives though he was fully -dressed. One of the victims was brought to '. shallow water and told to run to the beach, but seized with fear, fell down and was taken out -again by the undertow and drowned.
