TREAT FOR POOR CHILDREN.

[ TO THE EDITOH. Sir,— A number of us nave been camping at Day's Bay for the last nionth, 1 and while there have given open-air concerts, which havo ' been largely attended. The idea came to me that these gatherings could be turned to good I account on behalf of the children at the , Salvation Army Home, Wellington (Owen-street). I suggested to the people how very acceptable it would be to giro them a fortnight's holiday at our camp. We should, of course, have to raise , enough money, 01 obtain sufficient promises of eatables, etc., to keep them going while they were over there". ..Xhiß suggestion was taken up with energy. The sum of £15 has been subscribed; . a butcher has promised 1501b of beef; also, we have the promises of 140 galL lons of milk, cheese, all the tea that is ' required, and some dolls for presents. 1 wanted, if passible, to get £15 more, ; making £30 in all. We now want the , loan of two tents, about seven trusses 1 of straw, more cheese, jam, lollies, and . especially fruit. Tne children will re- ■ quire 30 loaves of bread per day and . several pounds of butter. Your readers . will easily understand how quickly the money will be spent. I have also the ( promise of the use of a raft, but want : someone with a motor launch to volun- > teer to tow it from Wellington and back , again. i Visitors will always be welcomed to the camp, which is situate a few minutes' walk from tho wharf at Day's Bay. — l > I am, etc., J. W. READE, Aglionby-street, Lower Hutt. Day's Bay, 25th January. '
