TYPOGRAPHICAL UNION. <*» The forty-eighth annual meeting of members of the Wellington Typographical Union was held at the Oddlellows' Hall' on Saturday evening. There was a large attendance, and Mr. E. Jones (president) occupied the'chair. The New Zealand Trades and Labour CpunciTs executive forwarded a circular pointing out that Mr. E. Tregear, Secretary for Labour, was about to retire from tho Labour Department, and it Avas suggested that the time was opportune to recognise his great work performed on behalf of the working classes. During the discussion that ensued it was urged that Mr. Tregear had given a lead to the outside world as far as industrial legislation was concerned, and the high state of efficiency of the department under his control was a (striking example of his capa-city for organisation. It was resolved to vote the sum of £3 3s towards the presentation fund that was being raised wili a view of -securing a suitable testimonial. The report and balance-sheet wereread and adopted. The retiring president (Mi-. E. Jones) was voted an honorarium of £10 for his services during the past year, and a hearty vote of thanks was also accorded mm. The meeting decided to place on record the members' appreciation of the active membership of Mr. C. H. Chapman (who •recently left Wellington to pay a visit to his friends in England and to lecture in that country on the labour laws and conditions prevailing in this Dominion,), a/nd to wish him every success in his future sphere. A letter to_;kat effect will be forwarded to him. The election of officers resulted as follows:—President. Mr. C 4. C. Barker (elected unopposed); vice-president, Mr. James Harper; secretary-treasurer, Mr. J. W. F. M'Dougall; trustees—general fund. Messrs. T. M'lntyre and D. Ryrie (elected unopposed); "mortality fund, Messrs. Waller C. Millar and W. Sutherland (re-elected unopposed); ;auditors, Mes&rs. F. R. Curtis and G. v. Thirkell (re-elected unopposed); board members, Messrs. T. Lomas F. W Swift, and H. R. van Borssum. *The ioUowmg were elected the union's representatives on the committee of management of the Weekly Herald Publishing Society: Messrs. J. W. F. M'Dougall, G. J. Sellers. A. D. Robbie, E. Jones, and T. M. Murphy.
