• FIVE MEN FINED. fBT TELEGRAPH— PEESS ASSOCIATION.] AUCKLAND, This Day. Five men appeared at the Police Court this morning, charged that "they, with certain other persons, with intent to prevent the running of the Auckland Trotting Club's races at Alexandra Park, assembled in such manner, and to conducted themselves, as to cause persons in neighbourhood to fear they would disturb the peace, and simultaneously, without reasonable occasion, provoked other persons to disturb the »>eace Tempestuously." The Magistrate, on the request of deJindants' solicitor, agreed to reduce the charge to one of committing a breach of tho peace, and defendants pleaded giulty. The Magistrate said the offence could not be looked at in a mild manner. Accused had given considerable trouble, i.nd;- their action might have led to bloodshed. He fined each £5- and costs.
