THE GRAND JUNCTION. AN IMPORTANT DEVELOPMENT. [XT TELEGRAPH — SP3SOIAti TO THE POST.] WAIHI, This Day. At a point 820 ft east of the main north crosscut a start has Been made to crosscut from the Martha, reef to cosnTiect with the Empire lode. After' advancing the crosscut between 20ft aaid 30ft through the. country rock, beyond what appeared to be the hanging wall of the Martha, a fresh make of quartz was intercepted. This has now been penetrated for from 7ft to Bft, with no indication of the hanging wall, and the lode, as far as opened up, shows nice sulphide ore. The assay values aro not yet available for publication, but the superintendent informed your representative that the reef is of highly payable quality. The discovery will probably prove to be a- brajicli of the Martha lode, and promises to be of considerable importance, as it 'shows conclusively that ore of payable quality exists in the section 01 the mine some 1200 ft to 1500 ft we&b of the Wa-ihi Goldmrning Gompacny's boundary. The new generator ordered bj the company lias arrived in Auckland, and should be at the mino m a few days. As soon as this is installed the sinking of the shaft for No. 6 level will be resumed, and the two additional tube mills will be placed in commission. This will enable the company to treat 400 tons of ore daily, in place of 300 tons.
