VISIT TO NEW PLYMOUTH. PETEOLEUM WORKS. [bi telegraph— press association.] • NEW PLYMOUTH, 26th Jan. His Excellency the Governor arrived at New Plymouth last night on his first visit to Taranaki. To-day he visited the Taranaki Petroleum Company's works at Moturoa, and was much interested in the- continuous flow of oil at No. 2 bore, and in the drilling and sandpumping operations at No. 3. At noon cc unveiled a memorial foundation on Marsland Hill erected to the memory of the Taranaki troopers who fell in the South African War, the funds being the balance remaining of the local fund raised at the time for assisting injured or incapacitated troopers. This afternoon, at a civic reception, in the piesence of several thousands, in the beautitul Recreation Grounds, he was presented with an illuminated address. In tho evening he was the guest of the combined Liedertafel and Liederkranz Societies at a. concert in the Theatre Royal. One of the motor-car^ at the garden party this afternoon was driven by benzine distilled from petroleum produced at the bores of the Taranaki Petroleum Company at Moturoa, and naturally aroused some interest. Drilling at 3370 it at No. 3 bore, the formation has improved, and there are indications of tresb oil.
