BRITISH FARM LABOURERS FOR AUCKLAND.
AUCKLAND, 26th January. The provincial secretary of the Auckland Executive of the Farmers' Union (Mr. Schmitt) indicated to-day what it is proposed to do in the direction of introducing British farm labourers into Auckland province. In April next, Mr. Flanagan, of Drury, vice-president of the Provincial Executive, leaves for England. While in the Old Country he will make a personal examination of suitable farm hands, and select as many as are required by the farmers of the province. "We have no intention of running against the Government," Mr. Schmjtt, "and hope to work in conjunction with the Labour Department if possible. The demand for suitable farm labour is very great indeed, and we expect that the first batch of arrivals will number at least a hundred."
