HALF-HOLIDAY. WEDNESDAY AGAIN SELECTED.

Tha annual statutory meeting for th« determination of the weekly half-holiday during 1911 was held in the Town Hall yesterday afternoon. The Mayor (Mr. T. M. Wilford) presided. The other delegates were : — Wellington City — Councillors Frost, Trevor, Cohen, and Thompson ; Onslow Borough — Mr. Lynneberg (Deputy-Mayor) ; Karori Borough — Mr. 0. I. Dasent (Mayor) ; Mivamar Borough — Mr. J. Brodie (Mayor) ; Johnsonville — Councillor Thompson. After the clause of the Act had been read, Councillor Trevor moved that the half-holiday be Wednesday. He gave as his chief reason tho impossibility of providing recreation grounds for all if Saturday were a universal half-holiday. • Councillor Frost seconded the motion for the reason- that the city could not bear any further restriction. Mr. Brodie advocated Saturday as the hali^holiday, and Mr. Dasent moved to that effect. Councillor Cohen opposed the proposal for Staurday very strongly on the ground that it would ruin the Bmall shopkeeper. Tlie Mayor agreed with this. Ha ; had full reason to believe that Wednesj day was the best day. It would not b« I healthy to make a change at this time* If (.he change did come it would be pro* ba-bly through Parliamentary authority. The motion was carried with three dissentients, Messrs. Dasent, Brodie, and Lynueberg.
