SCHOOLS IN TARANAKI.
NEW PLYMOUTH, 24th January. •At the Taranaki Education. Board meeting to-night Inspector Whetter reported that, wishing to Bee how Taranaki stood ¦with regard to the Junior National Scholarships, he had made an analysis of those -who nad qualified for these scholarships in the Dominion. He had based his calcu^tions on the attendance returns of 1909, owing to the 1910 returns not yefc being available. Taranaki had 45 schools with 5793 scholars. In the percentage of scholarships per thousand, Taranaki headed the. list- with. 7.7 per thousand. Marlborough came next with 7.0, Wellington 6.9, Otago 6.4, Hawkes Bay 5.6, Auckland 5.4, and Westland 5.4.
