TRENTHAM RACES. LAST DAY OF WELLINGTON SUMMER MEETING.

Though the conditions looked any-" thing bnt promising during the 'early morning, matters had improved by' tfaei time that the first of the special trains arrived at the course, and though a fairly high wind continued to', bjow the .¦weather was far from unpleasant. Both ,the race track and the lawns were be,ginning_ to show signs of the wear to .which they had been subjected, bnt the going was again in first-class order. The attendance was not nearly so large as ¦on the second day of the meeting, but ¦was still of satisfactory proportions. Bracken, who had drawn No. 2 position, was the first to get going, and led round the turn from Daunton and Kautukn, whilst Colleen Mary was last. Aunt Sally and Royal Knight were showing up prominently as heads were straightened ior the run in, and Colleen 'Mary now commenced a phenomenal run on the inside. She could not quite get np to Bracken, however, who lasted long enough to win by half a length. Aunt Sally was a neck away third, Laius fourth, and True Knight fifth. Sharpshooter were the leading division over the nrefc furlong, but by the time the home turn was met ¦with San Lass had ran up into second place. St. Felix ' xras now tailed off a bad last. Humming Bird and San Lacs then held command until inside the distance, when Sharpshooter asserted himself, and went on to win a hard-fought race by half a length. Peacemaker, who came late on the scene, was a similar distance away third, whilst the next io finish were ifasnakvle, Medallist, and San Lass. At the home turn Bronze and Counterfeit were almost on terms, whilst Byron became prominent on the outside. Counterfeit had Bronze's measure at the distance, but Byron then put in his claim, and catching the Treadmill filly fifty yards from home, he beat her fairly easily by a good head. Bronze was two lengths further back, followed by Bootle and Sinapis. Time, 48 3-ssec. SUMMER HANDICAP, of 400 soys; second 50 soys. third 25 soys from stake. One mile. It. D.
