INDIAN SEDITION.

ANOTHER CHARGE AGAINST SAVARKAR. By Telegraph.—Press Association.— Copyrighb, BOMBAY, 24th January. Vinayak Sa.varkar, the young Indian law student, who has been tried and sentenced on other counts for sedition, is now charged with having aided the murder of Mr. Jackson, of lNasik, cabled on 22nd December, 1909. The prosecution states that he sent fifty Browning pistols through a cook employed in tie India House by means of a box with a false bottom, thus evading the Customs. One of the pistols was given to Mr. Jackson's murderer. [Mr. Jackson was Collector of Nasik, in the Bombay Presidency, and was shot while visiting the native theatre in that city on 21st December, 1909. Savarkar was arrested m London on charges of sedition, and extradited to India. On the journey out he escaped i from iiio mail steamer at Marseilles, but was promptly recaptured. Owing to the fact that Savarkar had landed on French soil, the French Government complained that his re-arrest was a vio lation of international law, and requested a suspension of his trial. It was eventually agreed that the question of the legality of the re-arrest should be submitted to arbitration, and that in the event of the prisoner's conviction, the sentence should not be carried out pending the award. Savarkar was tried at Lombay last month on the charge of causing the printing of leaflets of a seditiou3°nature ' to be distributed in India. He was convicted, and sentenced to transportation < for life, with forfeiture of his pro- i perfcy.] < ' ' ' < ; '
