PALMERSTON N., 23rd Jan. | The second round cf the Lord Hawke Cup was started to-day, when Rangitikei and Manawatu met. The visitors wero completely, outclassed on the first innings, and have a big uphill fight before them {,0-morrow. Winning the to?-s they took strike, but made a poor showing against Greer's fast deliveries. Skipper Hussey was the only bafsman to make a_ stand. He went in first and carried his bat for 45, afteT an exhibition which was a monument of patience. The total score was 95, Orton 15' being Rangitikei's only other double-figure scorer. Greer obtained tho splendid average of four wickets for 10 runs, while Bartlett got two for 27. c Manawatu's innings was a much better exhibition of batting, 200 being, hoisted before the la«t wicket tell. Ongley made 71 by fine cricket ; Young (the seventeen-year-old High School colt), by pretty cricket, added 31 to the total. Roberts 25, Bartlett 17, and Greer 17 were the other double-figure scorers.
