CASE AGAINST A MAORI.

WANCANUI. 18th January. At the Magistrate's Comt to-day, an action was brought against a for assault. A circumstantial account of the alleged occurrence >va<= given by the plaintiff, a white man. and he called two natives to support him. The natives, however, had in the meantime evidently come to the conclusion that they knew nothing of the affair, and professed entire ignorance. The case had to be dismissed, without prejudice to any subsequent action.
