CLAIMS AGAINST THE HARBOUR BOARD,

• COMPENSATION AWARDED. Judgment was given by his Honour Mr. Justice Cooper to-day in the two compensation claims against the Harbour board for the resumption of two sections at Miramar. At the hearing Mr. W. M. Hannay acted as assessor for the board and Mr. A. L. Wilson for the claimants. Samuel Morrell claimed £650 for his section, the board having offered £475 |in satisfaction. His Honour announced that the court, by a majority, awarded claimant £495, each assessor to be paid a fee of £5 ss, court costs £30 ss, witnesses' expenses, etc., to be ascertained and paid fjy the respondents. Mr. Hannay was unable to agree with the awarS, because he considered the £475 offered by the board wais adequate value for the property. A SECOND CLAIM. Isabella S. C. Meredith, of Chrißtchurch, and Otto Neugent Newman, of Wellington, claimed £475 for the second section, the board having offered £280 in settlement. By a majority, the court in this case awarded claimant £305, each assessor to receive £5 ss. Expenses, as in the previous case, to be paid by respondents. Mr. Hannay considered the £280 offered by the board was sufficient. At the hearing, Mr. C. P. Skerrett, K.C., with him Mr. Buddie, appeared for the claimants, and My. T. o.
