THE DANGER OF STIMULANTS.

XO THE EDITOH. Sir, — Last evening, 30th November, as I was proceeding home, 1 came across a knot of people congregated at the corner of the Terrace and Botanical-road. They were intent in gazing at a woman who was lying on the ground recovering, as I thought, from some kind of fit. Whisky in abundance was being poured down her throat, which made her in a very excited state. I asked a gentleman near by if he knew the history of the ease. "Heart attack," he said, but, as I could see no symptoms which would point to that, I concluded it was not that. Eventually someone arrived with a cab and removed her. Now, let me state that if she had been suffering from internal hemorrhage, for instance, the whisky no doubt would have proved fatal. I don't know why it is that such numbers of people, in the case of accident or sudden illness, rush for one of the alcoholic beverages^ On no account should any stimulant be given to a case of accident or illness on the street unless, of course, under orders from a doctor. — I am, etc., " EYEWITNESS." Wellington, Ist December, 1910.
