ANCIENT EGYPT.
LECTURE AT THE ARTS CLUB. An interesting lecture was delivered before a large audience at the Art-e Club last evening by Mr. S. Hurst Seager, F.R.1'.8.A.. of Christchurch, on "Modern Discoveries in Ancient Egypt," with the' aid of lantern slides of the tombs of tho khi(?s and subjects in the museum of Egyptian Art at Cairo. The lecturer was able to show that m spite of traditional crudities of thought the ancient people of the Nile Valley had reached thousands of year? ago a very high plane of human development. Not only were they great in the arts and sciences, but also in the i region of philosophic and religious thought. I They expressed high ideals m a highly artistic and adequate manner. Mr Seager received a hearty vote ot thanks for his address. Mr. ii. KiiY-watd, nrnsklent of Hie club, was in tho chair.
