DESERT MOTOR RACE.
♦ . A RECORD BEATEN. By Telegraph.— Press Association.— Copyright. (Received November 9, 10 a.m.) NEW YORK, Bth November. Herrick won the Los Angeles Phoenix desert motor race of 450 miles, his time being 15 hours 44 minutes. He beat the previous record held by Joe Nizrot by three hours 29 minutes. Ralph Halmir did the distance in 16 hours 16^ minutes, finishing second. There were fourteen entrants, the majority of whom finished. [A message dated 6th inst., stated : — "Fourteen automobiles have started from Los Angeles (California) on a race of 450 miles across the desert to Phoenix, Arizona. The roads to be traversed are the most dangerous ever attempted oy motorists. The motors will be ferried across the rivers en route.]
