PARLIAMENT.
LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL. The Legislative Council continueo. its sitting after The Post went to press yesterday, and also met again at 8 p.m. COMMERCIAL TRUSTS. The Commercial Trusts Bill was committed. In reply to the Hon. G. J. Smith, the Attorney- General said that the Bill in no way touched a commercial trust until it did something illegal. It was only when it did one or other of the things named in the Bill that it was declared illegal. The Hon. W. Beehan moved to add "fish" to the schedule of the Bill. A lengthy discussion ensued, the At-torney-General remarking that he could not accept the amendment. The Bill was a beginning, and a very good beginning. The trouble in regard to the price of fish could be remedied by the establishment of municipal markets. On a division, Mr. Beehan's amendment was carried by 12 votes to 5. The Bill was reported with this amendment, and subsequently passed. THROUGH COMMITTEE. The Opium Amendment Bill, Kaiapoi Reserve Bill, and Inspection of Machinery Amendment Bill were put through committee and passed. The Council adjourned at 9.45 p.m.
